Paracentropyge Venusta

Paracentropyge venusta, better known as the purple-masked sunfish, is a small sunfish.

These fish have been in the Holacanthus, Centropyge and even their own genus over the years, but are considered by most to be Paracentropyge. Although they only come from a relatively small area around Japan, they show much variation in pattern. Their tail all the way across their body toward their dorsal fin is always blue with blue markings in another color. In most individuals, this blue also extends into the anal fin and almost every fish has some degree of blue on the head. Their mouth to belly always appears to be yellow, sometimes a little orange-yellow. The area between the head and the back half (also called crown) is where the most variation is, making each individual unique.
