The Leopard Blenny (Exallias brevis) is a beautiful and unique marine fish known for its striking, leopard-like spotted pattern. Its body, which can range in color from cream-white to pink, is adorned with clustered spots that vary from brownish to orange, red, and even purplish. This intricate pattern serves as excellent camouflage on the corals they inhabit in their natural environment.
Important Note for Aquarists: The Leopard Blenny is an obligate corallivore, meaning its primary diet in the wild consists exclusively of coral polyps. This species is not recommended for a typical reef aquarium as it will actively feed on and damage your stony corals (SPS), such as Acropora and Porites. They can only be kept successfully in a large, dedicated system with an abundant supply of fast-growing corals.
Distinctive Appearance: A beautiful spotted pattern that gives it its common name. The spots can vary in color and density, making each fish unique.
Unique Behavior: As a specialized coral eater, it has a fascinating feeding behavior.
Hardiness: With the right setup, they can be hardy and resilient.
Origin: Found in the Indo-Pacific, from the Red Sea to Hawaii.
Scientific Name: Exallias brevis
Common Name: Leopard Blenny, Shortbodied Blenny

Reef Safe: No, not suitable for most reef aquariums.

Max Size: Up to 5.7 inches (14.5 cm)
Minimum Tank Size: 80 gallons (300 liters) or larger, with a constant supply of stony corals.
